Hi! I’m Bob. Welcome to JW Homestead.
I didn’t grow up on a farm.
For most of my life, my world looked very different from the one you’ll see on these pages. My career has been built around technology, solving complex problems, and working with organizations all over the world. I’ve spent years surrounded by servers, networks, meetings, and airplanes.
Then somewhere along the way, my family and I started asking a simple question:
What if we could build something different?
In 2024, we traded the convenience of town for 15 acres in rural Ohio and started JW Homestead. Not because we knew everything about farming, but because we wanted to learn. We wanted our kids to understand where food comes from, what responsibility feels like, and what happens when you slow down enough to pay attention.
Since then, our days have become a mixture of old and new. I might spend the week talking about technology and innovation, then come home and repair fences, haul feed, move animals, split wood, or finish chores after a delayed flight home from another country.
And honestly? That balance has become one of my favorite parts of this journey.
JW Homestead started with chickens, but quickly grew into something more. Laying hens, meat birds, turkeys, pigs, gardens, fruit trees, and a long list of projects that always seems to grow faster than we can finish them.
We believe animals deserve good lives. Our pigs Coconut and Reese taught us that lesson more than anything. For 22 months they had sunshine, pasture, fresh air, treats, belly scratches, and room to just be pigs. When the time came to put food on our family’s table, we knew every step of their story.
That connection matters.
This page is about sharing the real journey. The successes, the mistakes, the “well, we won’t do that again” moments, and everything in between.
We are not experts.
We are a family learning how to build something meaningful one day, one project, and one chore at a time.
Thanks for following along.
Welcome to JW Homestead.
