Food raised with respect. A life built with intention.
Welcome to JW Homestead.
We are a small family homestead in Eastern Ohio built around a simple idea: getting closer to the story behind the food on our table.
But our story did not start here.
For years, our family lived in the Columbus, Ohio area surrounded by the rhythm of modern life. Neighborhoods, schedules, convenience, and the everyday pace that so many families know well. It was home, and it was a chapter of our lives we are thankful for.
But somewhere along the way, we started feeling a pull toward something different.
More space.
More responsibility.
More connection.
We wanted our family to experience where food comes from, understand the work behind it, and learn skills that have quietly faded from everyday life for many of us.
So we traded some conveniences for pastures, projects, animals, and plenty of lessons learned the hard way.
What started as a move toward a simpler, more intentional way of living quickly grew into something much bigger. Chickens became fresh eggs. Open space became pasture. Small ideas became weekend projects. Weekend projects became a way of life.
Today, JW Homestead is home to laying hens, meat birds, turkeys, pigs, gardens, orchards, and whatever new adventure seems like a good idea at the time.
Around here, animals are not just numbers.
They are part of the journey.
We believe if an animal is going to help provide for our family or another family, it deserves care and respect first. It deserves fresh air, sunshine, room to explore, good food, and the opportunity to simply be what it was created to be.
That belief shapes everything we do.
It means early mornings before work, muddy boots by the door, frozen water buckets in the winter, fence repairs after storms, and learning that animals rarely care what your schedule looks like.
Homesteading has a way of keeping you humble.
But it also gives something back.
It teaches patience. It creates appreciation. It reminds us that before every meal there was a story.
We don’t believe everyone has to live the same way we do. We are not here to tell anyone they are doing things wrong. We simply chose to step closer to the process, carry the responsibility ourselves when we can, and share that journey with others.
JW Homestead is about more than raising food.
It is about family.
It is about learning.
It is about respecting the land and animals entrusted to us.
It is about building something meaningful, one season at a time.
Thanks for following along with our story.
